For the first Saanen kid with our herd name, "Phoenix" has certainly gone on to make a name for herself. Her dam "Luna" was a $100 purchase from a backyard herd turned foundation doe, excellent scored and multiple best in show winner. When Phoenix was born, it was a difficult kidding so we chose to let Luna raise her which led to Phoenix being feral for the first few years of her life. I showed her as a junior doe for her junior years, but then after several failed attempts we could not successfully breed her (primarily due to using a vet who was not well educated in small ruminant reproduction) to freshen until she was a four year old.

She made the wait worth it quickly finishing her permanent championship. She also made the 2018 Saanen Grade breed leader list and won High 305 Milk and Butterfat with her first freshening lactation record at the 2018 ADGA National Show. She placed top ten as a second freshening five year old and has placed over does that have done extremely well at national shows at other shows. We we're devistated when she developed a serious mastitis case and we lost half of her udder, so her show career was cut short. She is still just as structurally correct standing on feet and legs better than most two year olds at almost ten years old.

Her paternal sister/maternal niece GCH Hops N Lops Cold Open 1*M EX92 is also a very successful doe for us who is so similar in type. Open also won the Lifetime Milk and Butterfat awards at the 2022 ADGA National Show on a less than ideal lactation. This line certainly likes to keep it consistent!

As an almost ten year old retired doe, Phoenix is still just as structurally correct and certainly temps me to breed her again, but she has earned her pasture pet title to live our her years with her mother!
